What to Expect

On your first appointment when you arrive; make yourself comfortable.  I will greet you and introduce you to the space we will do our work.  During the initial session, I will ask a lot of questions to get to know you and what brings you in.  We will review symptoms and discuss your struggles, strengths, background on what you have tried, and your goals for our work together.  This should take about an hour.  Please bring any questions.

The Journey of EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing or EMDR is a 8 phase protocol for your brain and body to process trauma.  For more information on  trauma see below.

The beginning phases are designed to help you regulate your emotions, thoughts, and body.

Then we will work on gathering information on the trauma you have experienced and working to reprocess it.  This does not mean that that your memories will disappear, it just means the pain, discomfort or anger associated with it will be lessened.

Ending phases focus on reinstalling good feelings and thoughts in your body and practicing installing them for future situations.

Trauma and the Body

Most people experience a trauma at least once in their life.  Trauma can be child abuse or neglect, sexual assault, car accidents, loss of a loved one, divorce, or experiencing or witnessing violence.

Common symptoms of PTSD can include digestive issues, feeling on edge, flashbacks, coping with addictions or sex, anger, isolation, and feelings of fear and hopelessness.  These are all normal responses to trauma.  Through brain, body, and mind integration wholeness can be achieved again.
